Chapter 20

Duncan lay within Michael’s arms as he pressed back against his aheri’s chest. He loved the way Michael wrapped his body around him as they slept in Michael’s bed. Duncan smiled as he thought about how Michael had referred to the bed as their bed. It seemed that his destined mate had accepted him.

Duncan almost feared believing it. Even though Michael could now see the mating marks on their wrists, Duncan still held worry deep within his heart. The thought of losing this man to a life that Michael wanted to experience without him was something that he could not help but think about.

He wanted to take Michael home with him to Sanzel, show him the small cottage that they were meant to share, and begin their future together. He hoped that seeing the home that they would share would allow Michael to know if it was a life that he wanted, as well.

Pushing aside the doubts that were deeply engrained within him, Duncan focused instead on the things that he knew. Through Michael’s touch, he could sense his mate’s deep caring for him. Mayhap, someday, Michael might grow to love him. Michael had been able to look past his faults so far. His destined mate actually made him believe that he was valued.

“How’re you feeling, honey?” Michael whispered against the back of his neck, kissing the warmth of Duncan’s skin as he pulled him closer. Sliding his hand up Duncan’s body, he carded his fingers through Duncan’s hair and massaged his right temple slowly. “Do you have any pain in your head?”

“I do not,” Duncan whispered, closing his eyes and allowing Michael’s touch to fill him with pleasure.

“What about your stomach?” Michael asked, touching Duncan’s shoulder to have him ease onto his back beside him. He covered Duncan’s abdomen with his right hand and caressed it slowly from just below the strong muscles of Duncan’s chest to just above his pubic bone. “I felt the pain in your body last night. It was pretty strong.”

“I often feel pain after I expend my magic,” Duncan explained softly. “Your touch has helped me. I did not feel the pain for very long. You helped me to release the magical energy that had built up within me.”

“Did you like the way I helped you release your magic, sweet man?” Michael asked, teasing him as he thought about sucking Duncan’s cock in the elevator. That was a memory that will always be at the top of the list of his favorite sexual experiences. He was looking forward to making many more of those memories with his bear.

“I liked it very much, Michael,” Duncan whispered, blushing only slightly. He was becoming more and more comfortable with the intimacy that he shared with Michael.

“I liked what you did to me in my car, too, Duncan,” Michael told him, leaning forward and kissing Duncan’s lips lightly. “You enjoyed using your magic on me then, didn’t you?”

Duncan laughed softly beneath Michael’s kisses. “I did,” he admitted.

“Do it again,” Michael told him, raising himself up on his forearm to look down at Duncan.
